Madam C. J. Walker
Sarah Breedlove, known as Madam C. J. Walker was an African-American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and a political and social activist. She was one of the first female self-made millionaires in the United States and lived here in Colorado. Walker made her fortune by developing and marketing a line of beauty and hair products for black women. Madam C. J. Walker shared much of her wealth through philanthropy and became a political force that greatly contributed to the African American community. Walker Manufacturing Company headquarters building was renamed the Madame Walker Theatre Center and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
