Longtime Earth Wind & Fire Saxophonist Andrew Woolfork Dead at 71

One of the soulful elements of Earth, Wind and Fire has passed on.

Saxophonist Andrew Woolfork passed away at the age of 71.

EWF singer Philip Bailey confirmed the news saying Woolfork died after a six-year illness. The two met at East High School in Denver.

Bailey posted on Instagram, “I met him in High School, and we quickly became friends and band mates. Great memories. Great talent. Funny. Competitive. Quick witted. And always styling.”

Woolfork joined the band in the early 1970s and remained a part of the group off and on until 1993. His horn was heard in songs like “September,” “Sing A Song,” “Shining Star,” and “That’s The Way Of The World.”
