Justice For Elijah McClain Still Hanging In The Air

Two Years After His Death And No One Has Been Held Accountable For His Death

It’s been two years since Elijah McClain went to grab an Iced Tea from the gas station and never returned home.

On that night, someone called Elijah in, saying he was suspicious as he wore a ski-mask and was waving his arms around. When the cops tried to stop him, he questioned them as anyone would. McClain wasn’t suspected of a crime and didn’t appear to be armed, but officers tackled him and placed him in a carotid hold (which has since been banned) anyways. When the paramedics arrived on scene, they injected him with the anesthetic ketamine at a much higher dose than appropriate for his size and weight. McClain had a heart attack on the way to the hospital and never recovered. He was declared brain dead and died a few days later on August 30th.

Sen. Michael Bennet, a Democrat and Colorado’s senior senator, also wrote the following last Tuesday on the date of his run-in with Aurora Police:

An independent review, released in February 2021, was highly critical of how Aurora Police and Aurora Fire paramedics handled the interaction with McClain.

“Elijah McClain should still be here today,” said Aurora Police Chief Vanessa Wilson. “I will hold myself and our officers accountable.”

A separate grand jury investigation into McClain’s death is also still underway on the state level.

We can only hope that this issue will be resolved and those involved will be held accountable.

Rest In Peace Elijah
