Do You Have Another Stimulus Check Coming Soon?

On Tuesday, House Democrats proposed the Heroes Act — a $3 trillion stimulus bill that, among other things, includes another $1,200 payment for every U.S. resident. But when will that money show up in your account? Never, if Senate Republicans get their way.
As proposed by the Democrats, the bill would actually provide more money to citizens than the previous CARES Act did. Instead of $500 per child, the Heroes Act would give parents an additional $1,200 per dependent — not just children under 17. It also promises to give payments to every qualified person listed on an individual’s tax return, regardless of whether they have social security numbers.

However, before the bill gets final approval, it needs to be OK’d by the Republican-controlled Senate. A number of Republicans have already voiced their concern over the amount of money that’s been thrown around since the pandemic began, so they’re less than eager to add another $3 trillion to the country’s debt. For now, they’ve put off voting on the Heroes Act until June. But even then, a spokesman for Senate Finance Committee Chuck Grassley says, the bill will be “DOA in the Senate.”
