Ruby Hill Rail Yard for urban skiers and riders is now open

Denver’s rail yard is the country’s only free urban terrain park, made possible through a collaboration between Winter Park Resort and Denver Parks and Recreation.

“We are grateful for Winter Park Resort’s partnership that allows us to offer this unique recreation opportunity in Denver,” said Happy Haynes, executive director of Denver Parks and Recreation. “This program increases access to Colorado’s iconic snow sports while encouraging residents to stay active outside during the winter.”

The only urban terrain park for snowsports in the U.S., the rail yard features 10 rails and boxes in Ruby Hill Park. A warm January in Denver slowed down snowmaking operations, but colder February temperatures made it possible to build it. Skiers and riders can play there all day, and under lights from dusk until 9 p.m. It is free to the public and is located off South Platte River Drive and West Florida Ave.
